Hank’s Music News | January 2017

Hello, Music Fans!

Yes, I have not issued my “news” in a good while. Technical issues and life circumstances took precedence for a spell! However, here we go again, and I feel I have much good news to report.

First things wanting to come first, here is where I’ll be playing and with whom around Austin this January.

Sunday, January 8 ~ 11AM to 1PM Brunch Music
Threadgill’s Old No. 1
6416 North Lamar Blvd. * (512) 451-5440

The original Threadgill’s has changed its brunch musical offerings to include a wider range of artists. This will be my first “solo” brunch show in the home of comfort food in Austin. My good friend Chris Alcaraz will join me on upright bass. We will pull songs from many genres, including a fair share of originals, and we expect to enjoy our musical freedom.

Wednesday, January 11 ~ 7PM to 9PM
!AH HA! Andrew Hardin & Hank Alrich
Threadgill’s Old No. 1
6416 North Lamar Blvd. * (512) 451-5440

Andrew Hardin and I have an album in the can, recorded in June 2016, and we expect to release it in this first quarter of 2017. We recorded ten songs that we really like, and we recorded them head-on with Merel Bregante in his wonderful studio, Cribworks Digital Audio, in Liberty Hill TX. Of course, at this show we will play for you all of the material on the album, and much more. I am honored to be working with this stellar guitarist and human being. We both draw much joy from this association. For kids our age, we have it going on!

Friday, January 13 ~ 6PM to 8PM
Hank Alrich, accompanying D.C. Bloom
Cafe Mueller – HEB
1801 E 51st St Austin TX

D. C. “David Charles” Bloom is a friend of mine, and an engaging songwriter and performer. He has a way with words, and a wit to match, plus an endearingly sensitive, romantic twist to his work. I have coproduced his new album, Just Another Song and Dance Man, to be released this month, and I think it is his best so far, of five albums over his lengthy career.

Saturday, January 14 ~ 3PM to 4PM
Hank Alrich, accompanying D.C. Bloom
Rush Evan’s The Singer and the Song
KOOP FM “Community Radio”
Austin TX

Rush Evans’ radio show digs into the meat and potatoes of songwriting, presenting artists from all around the USA, and including some foreigners. I always enjoy joining him for a broadcast, and look forward to this one with D.C. Bloom.

Saturday, January 14 ~ 7PM
Hank & Shaidri at the Ham Jam House
3800 Mia Tia Circle Austin TX 78731
For reservations call host Daren Appelt, 512.346.6944

This one is special to us. Daren Appelt is one of the strongest supporters of live Austin music. He probably has no equal in that regard when one considers what he has done for the scene going all the way back to the early 1970’s. His living room is the finest acoustical space in which we have ever performed, and as he will be retiring from house concert presentation after this year, we seriously hope all of you who enjoy truly acoustic music will be able to join us.

We will be accompanied by stellar bassist, Pat Harris, whom we will also employ for our second album, scheduled for recording later this year.

Okay, now we’re departing January 2017 for October 2017!

Saturday, October 7 ~ 7PM
Hank & Shaidri House Concert at Bill Wagman’s
Contact: Bill Wagman (530) 753-3472
Wagman House Concerts, Davis CA 95618

Here is something for Californians in and around Davis CA. Hank & Shaidri will play a few shows “way out West” this year, and this is the anchor date for us. Bill Wagman was the first-ever house concert presenter to book us for a show. Given that he had been doing house concerts for twenty years, at that time, we felt deeply honored to be chosen. For more than two decades Bill has cohosted The Saturday Morning Folk Show on KDVS FM, the college radio station at UC Davis. He gave our first album good airplay, and his followers responded by turning our strongly for our first show with him.

Please join us where and when you can. Playing the music for you is what drives us to drive places! Thanks for your support. It means a lot.

May kindness be our watchword, and cooperation our mantra. May love and laughter prevail. These are trying times. Let us try to make them better, for everyone.

An Informative Disc Label ~ Thank you, Bill Narum. RIP.

CMH_LabelProofScreeshot

Here is a screenshot of the final label proof for our first album.

Graphic designers often fail to deliver CD labels that offer all of the information that DJ’s require in easily legible form. Include company name, artist’s name, disc’s title, song titles, composer(s), publisher(s), PRO(s), the running time of each track, and copyright notice both for the compositions and for the performance art, i.e., the sound recording.

We are very thankful for the design work the late, great Bill Narum brought us for Carry Me Home, and we will maintain the formatting as best we can across future releases.

Hank’s Music News | February 2015

Hello, Music Fans, Friends, and Family!

Our shows in December and early January went fabulously. We picked up serious new fans at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, some of whom bought tickets to Jimmy LaFave’s sold-out New Year’s Eve extravaganza at Threadgill’s Old No. 1, a show we were honored to open, and we received a standing ovation for our set with Durawa at Strange Brew, Lounge Side. We are liking this a lot!

We have had a surprise January booking arrive, on very short notice, which has prompted the early issuance of my February newsletter. We will cover for Riley Osbourn and Floyd Domino who have been holding down Wednesday nights at Threadgill’s Old No. 1 with their Four Hands Boogie Woogie presentation. Here’s the scoop, and a look at a few other events, where Hank will appear as a sideman, and where Shaidri will appear with her other duo partner, Ezra Reynolds, keyboards and vocals.

Wednesday, January 28 7PM to 9:30PM
Threadgill’s North ~ aka “Old No. 1”
6416 North Lamar Blvd. * (512) 451-5440

Admission is free, tips are appreciated, the sound and the mixmaster are excellent, and so are the food and the hospitality. We played our first-ever duo gig in Austin here in June of 2008, and always enjoy returning. Eddie and Sandra Wilson and the whole Threadgill’s crew have given us tremendous support.

Tuesday, February 10 7PM to 9PM
Hank plays Sideman for DC Bloom
The Carousel Lounge
1110 E 52nd St, Austin, Texas 78723 * (512) 452-6790

I will ride shotgun with DC Bloom, on whose most recent CD, The Rest is Commentary, I laid down a few mandolin and vocal tracks. I’m working with DC on his next album, helping with production. I enjoy him, and his music, and this should be fun. I’ll bring a guitar and a mandolin, and try not to get dizzy on the merry-go-round!

Wednesday, March 18 1PM to 1:30PM
Tom Corbett + Hank Alrich = TOM HANK!
A DC Bloom SXSX Showcase Presentation

The Whip In
1950 S. Interstate Hwy. 35
Austin, TX 78704

This summary judgement of two guys who both play guitar and mandolin and write songs and make lots of silly jokes bodes well for the planet and the universe. You can’t have too much of this, unless you already have too much of it. Apt catchphrases to describe this act include “Almost famous in the slow moving pictures!”, and “Armed with string instruments and short attention spans!” If you think that sounds ridiculous you may just be right, but you will never know if you don’t catch their show. If this is their first, be alarmed that it will not be their last. They might also draft a young female vocalist, who plays fiddle. Developing…

Thursday, March 19 4:00PM to 4:45PM
Hank & Shaidri, and probably other pickers, too!
John Conquest 3rd Coast Music NotSxSW Showcase

Hank & Shaidri will bring some boot-scootin’ Americana to Giddy Ups Saloon, a favorite venue of ours in deep South Austin. Watch this space for news of additional pickers who will join us! Austin TX 78704

Fans of Shaidri Alrich who would love to hear her sing lead for an entire set, take note: the place to be is G & S Lounge, in the Main Bar room, where Shaidri, with her bandmate Ezra Reynolds on piano, will deliver a solo set for John Conquest’s 3rd Coast Music “Girl Friday ~ All Women, All Day” showcase series. Other band members may be announced as we get closer to the date.

G&S Lounge Music Room

2420 South 1st Street
Austin TX 78704

Hank & Shaidri return to the G & S Lounge Music Room for another fine and fun showcase under the John Conquest 3rd Coast Music banner. No two sets the same, and a great chance to hear us up close and personally, for little outlay. G & S Lounge is superbly stocked with a huge variety of brewed, fermented, and distilled beverages, and this year will have food trailers on site, making possible an all-in-one experience encompassing music, food, and drink. This, ladies and gentlemen, is South Austin in superb form. We may well be joined by other pickers. Updates will follow!

Sunday, March 22 11:00AM to 1:00PM
Bluegrass Brunch ~ Hank & Shaidri with Special Guest Tom Corbett
Threadgill’s North ~ aka “Old No. 1”

6416 North Lamar Blvd. * (512) 451-5440

We always enjoy playing Threadgill’s “Old No. 1″, the scene of so much outstanding Austin music history. This time we are extra-pleased to have the luminous Tom Corbett with us, mostly on mandolin, with some extra guitar work on the side. Tom is one of the world’s great pickers, and a marvelous human being, too.

The original Threadgill’s in north Austin has been our center as we’ve developed our music over the last few years. Eddie Wilson gave us our first Austin set there in June of 2008, one thing has definitely led to another, and we still consider this our musical home in Austin. Bluegrass Brunch is a marvelous affair, offering a complete Brunch Buffet featuring Migas, Grits, Biscuits & Gravy, Bacon & Sausage, an Omelet Station, Pancakes, Fresh Fruit and more. Have all that managed and wrangled by the stellar Threadgill’s crew of hospitable humans, add a good sound system and operator, and we’re ready to brunch in the name of bluegrass! Having Tom with us will make it just that much more tasty!

Sunday, March 22 7:30 to 8:20 PM
Hank & Shaidri’s “Last Call” for NotSxSW 2015

G&S Lounge Music Room
2420 South 1st Street
Austin TX 78704

Here we go! Last Call for our 2015 NotSxSW showcases, and it’s a nice one, with nearly a full hour to play. Thanks to Mark Viator & Susan Maxey, co-hosting in the name of John Conquest’s 3rd Coast Music magazine, for this happy opportunity! Catch their set, too, at 4:30PM, all at G and S Lounge in South Austin.

Come relax into a beverage and help us see this party on its way. Note that we will be followed by the inimitable John Lilly! You know we will be staying for his set! You should do that, too. (Not to be bossy or anything like that!)

Wednesday, March 25 6:00 to 8:00 PM
Hank & Shaidri, Texas Radio Live Broadcast, with David Arnsberger

Güero’s Taco Bar
1412 South Congress Avenue
Austin, TX 78704 USA

We are delighted to have been invited to be guests of David Arnsberger on his Texas Radio Live broadcast from Guero’s Taco Bar in South Austin TX. We will open the show for headliner Sahara Smith. This should be a lot of musical fun for us, plus there’s tacos!

That’s it for the moment. Please join us where and when you can. Playing music for you is what drives us to drive places! Thanks for your support. It means a lot.

May kindness be our watchword, and cooperation our mantra. May love and laughter prevail. These are trying times. Let us try to make them better, for everyone.

Hank’s Music News | December 2014

Hello, Music Fans, Friends, and Family!

You may well have wondered, “Where did Hank & Shaidri go this summer?” Well, they went to work on other things! Shaidri is Vice President of Operations for Go Dance, Austin’s premier social dance instruction studio. Go Dance recently brought two new venues into action with the additions of the Lakeway and Westgate center locations. To say Shaidri’s work schedule has been full is to understate the matter considerably!

In the meantime, background work to put in place important factors for the next album project proceeds steadily. Importantly, a steady flow of excellent new material portends very well both for the studio and the stage.

We have three fine Hank & Shaidri shows lined up in Austin this winter, two in December and one in early January, plus a couple of appearances of each without the other, both of which should be worth catching.

Here’s the scoop!

Sunday, December 7 ~ 12:30PM
Shaidri Alrich & Ezra Reynolds First Show!

2014 Violet Crown Arts Festival

Shaidri Alrich and Ezra Reynolds sing classic country and folk duets, accompanied by themselves on guitar and piano. The 2014 Violet Crown Arts Festival features over 60 local artists and craftsmen, and is free entry to browse and listen to music. Come early on Sunday to hear them from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. That is Hank’s plan for Sunday afternoon!

Sunday, December 7 – 7:00PM
DC Bloom’s Almost Patented Songwriters in the Half-Round
Hank Alrich, Ann Armstrong and Steve Hughes, with Host DC Bloom

The Whip In
1950 S. Interstate Hwy. 35
Austin, TX 78704

DC Bloom’s series “Rhymes, Beers and Wine: Songwriters in the Round” at the Whip In hosts many fine writers, and certainly Ann Armstrong & Steve Hughes uphold that standard in their own inimitable, and powerful blues material and delivery.

Hank has lots of songs that don’t fit what Hank & Shaidri do, so this will be a fun opportunity for him to play some of those. Even better, quite a few of these are ripe for some rockin’ blues support of the very kind that Ann and Steve can deliver. Chances are good that this will be one of the most stompin’ down sessions so far of DC Bloom’s songwriters rounds!

And there is more: Hank played on a couple of tracks from DC’s new album, The Rest is Commentary, so expect some sweet accompaniment there, too.

The Whip In has an extensive selection craft beers and quality wines, as well as some tasty food, including good vegetarian fare.

Friday, December 19 – 12:00 Noon
Hank & Shaidri, The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar
With Special Guests Andrew Hardin and Chris Alcaraz
The Palmer Events Center
900 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78704, USA

We are delighted once again to be included in this marvelous music festival, embedded in one of the world’s premier seasonal arts and crafts festivals. It’s a grand thing anytime our name shows up close to Ray Wylie Hubbard’s!

We will play two sets, approximately one hour each. We have a nice selection of songs we’ve written since we last did this, and we are looking forward to sharing some of those from this delightful stage.

For this special occasion, we will bring a special band, with Chris Alcaraz joining us on upright bass, as well as the legendary Andrew Hardin on guitar.

This is the 39th edition of The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, an event that began the very first year that Hank assumed management of Armadillo World Headquarters, the still-unequaled-in-Texas concert venue that put Austin on the international live music map.

The music festival within the The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar offers music lovers a chance to hear their favorite Texas-centric artists in a setting where the sound is excellent and never too loud, from a stage on which musicians feel right at home. Take this opportunity to hear Hank & Shaidri, in concert!

Wednesday, December 31 7PM to January 1 1AM
Jimmy LaFave’s New Years Eve Concert

Threadgill’s North ~ aka “Old No. 1”
6416 North Lamar Blvd. * (512) 451-5440

We are excited to get to open Jimmy LaFave’s New Year’s Eve concert at this marvelous venue. Threadgill’s has been our launching pad here in Austin, and returning to play there always feels like a special event for us. No need to underscore that getting to open any show for Jimmy is a special event! Thank you, Jimmy, and thank you, Threadgill’s!

Seating at Kenneth Threadgill’s original location is limited, and this event has sold out consistently for years. You can find the details at: http://www.threadgills.com/events/new-years-eve-jimmy-lafave/ .

Cover price includes a 4-Course Meal • Champagne Toast at Midnight • Party Hats • Black-Eyed Pea Shooters • and Jimmy LaFave, with Hank & Shaidri.

Seating for diners will begin at 7:00PM.
Dinner service will commence at 7:30PM.
Hank & Shaidri Alrich will open the show at 9:00PM.
Jimmy will take the stage from 10pm-12:30PM.

Tuesday, January 6 – 6:00PM
Hank & Shaidri, Guests with Durawa!

Strange Brew Loungeside
5326 Manchaca Road
Austin TX 78745

We feel honored to have been invited back by Ernie Durawa to be a guest artist with his band Durawa, with Will Knaak on guitar and Chris Alcaraz on bass, for a slot in their weekly Strange Brew Lounge Side series. Look for this one to be a little more country, a little bit more rockin’ than our usual Hank & Shaidri set! What a way to start 2015! No foolin’! Thank you, Ernie. We had so dang much fun last time!

That’s it for the close-up future. Join us where and when you can. Playing the music for you is what drives us to drive places! Thanks for your support. It means a lot.

May kindness be our watchword, and cooperation our mantra. May love and laughter prevail. These are trying times. Let us try to make them better, for everyone.

Mandolin Finds New Owner, Departs for Places Unknown

Hank was rambling around Austin TX with our friend Tom Corbett when they decided to head to Fiddler’s Green Music Shop so that Hank could hear Tom play Hank’s lovely old Gibson F2 mandolin. When they arrived the instrument was nowhere to be found, and upon inquiry, owner Clay Leavitt said that the previous evening only minutes before closing a customer had rushed in, gone right to the old Gibson, and bought it!

Hank played many wonderful shows with that lovely old instrument, and spent many musically delicious hours in its good company. He hopes its new owner loves it as much as he did. Bon voyage, and thank you for the music.

Hank’s Music News ~ February 2014

Howdy, Music Fans and Best Beloveds!

This February 2014 edition of Hank’s Music News arrives mid-month as dates and times for showcases in Austin gradually fall into place. As usual we have a passel of showcases under John Conquest’s 3rd Coast Music’s NotSxSW banner, where we are delighted to be part of a stellar crowd of roots and related musicians.

Let’s get into it!

Thursday, March 6 – 8:00PM
Togetherness Tour 2014: Hank & Shaidri with Susan Herndon
“Songwriters in the Round” hosted by Ken Gaines
Anderson Fair
2007 Grant Street, Houston TX 77006
(832) 767-2785
When we attended our first SWRFA conference (Southwestern Regional Folk Alliance) in 2010, Ken Gaines of the Anderson Fair room led a showcase song swap with Susan Herndon and ourselves, wherein the spark of compatibility ignited a joyous bonfire of mutual appreciation, and the rest is history past and to be written. Reconvening that panel, with the addition of Ken’s worthy picking partner, Wayne Wilkerson, will be fun. We’re pleased to make our third visit to this storied Texas songwriter’s venue, where fun food, a fine sound system, and streams of fine new songs make for an enjoyable evening. What a joy for us to have this as part of our Togetherness Tour 2014 with Susan. You’re invited! Bring ten of your best friends!

Friday, March 7 – 7:00PM
Togetherness Tour 2014: Hank & Shaidri with Susan Herndon and Special Guest Bret Mosley
Threadgill’s North
6416 North Lamar Blvd., Austin TX
(512) 451-5440
This is a special show for us as our second annual Togetherness Tour with the marvelous Susan Herndon returns to Threadgill’s North, with the stellar added attraction of Special Guest Bret Mosley. Bret hasn’t played in Austin since 2010 and we are delighted to have him join us for this event. Look for a grand finalé with all four of us on stage singing Woody Guthrie songs!

Saturday, March 8 – 7:30PM Opening for Butch Morgan!
Togetherness Tour 2014: Hank & Shaidri with Susan Herndon
Olmos Bharmacy
At the corner of Hildebrand & McCullough
3902 McCullough
San Antonio, TX 78212
(210)822-1188
Thanks to the inimitable and irrepressible Butch Morgan we will take our tour to San Antonio for the first time! We love Butch, and we love his music! Great fun awaits us!

Sunday, March 9 – TBA

Wednesday, March 12 – 1:00PM
3rd Coast Showcase * “Not SxSW” Hank & Shaidri with Doug Harman
Amelia’s Retrovogue
2213 South 1st Street, Austin TX
Come join us at Amelia’s Retrovogue for part of your showcasing day! Amelia’s lovely backyard is the perfect spot to enjoy music outdoors among like-minded friends and fellow travelers. This is one of our favorite showcase venues, because it’s outdoors, close-up and personal. Will this be the first time a cello has sounded in Amelia’s backyard? Developing!

Wednesday, March 12 – 7:00PM
A Family Affair: Hank & Shaidri Alrich with Special Guests Doug & James Harman
Threadgill’s North
6416 North Lamar Blvd., Austin TX
(512) 451-5440
This will be terrific musical fun for all of us. Doug accompanied us on cello when we recorded Carry Me Home, and joins us for live shows whenever possible. Doug’s son, James Harman, is one of the finest guitarists anybody has ever heard, and together they offer an outstanding musical duo. When Eddie Wilson learned Doug would be in town with James he jumped on the chance to get them up on stage at the original Threadgill’s. We will close the evening with all four of us carrying on and out in grand style. It has been many years since Doug’s fans have been able to hear him in Austin. We delight in the arrival of this opportunity!

Thursday, March 14 – 7:00PM
Barker House Concerts Presents by Paul Barker
Central Market Westgate
4477 S. Lamar Blvd. Austin, TX 78745
Once again we are honored to part of Paul Barker’s cast of dozens for another round of Barker House Concerts Presents showcases. We’ll be in great company! Last year was our first time to play the new Central Market Westgate stage. We were surprised and thrilled to find an audience of several hundred folks. Clearly, Paul has a stellar reputation for booking a lovely lineup.

Friday, March 14 – 6:30PM
3rd Coast Music “Not SxSW” Girl Friday * The Shaidri Show!
G&S Lounge Music Room
2420 South 1st Street
Austin TX
In his typically heroic manner John Conquest addresses gender inequity in the music business with his annual “all women, all day” showcases. For those of you who’ve been wishing to hear Shaidri sing lead for a whole set this should qualify as a “Special Event”. This will be Shaidri’s third Girl Friday set. Apparently John hears something in her singing! She’ll probably bring her ol’ dad along as sideman, with surprise assistance from Doug Harman and James Harman.

Saturday, March 15 – 12:30 PM
3rd Coast Music Showcase * “NotSxSW”
G&S Lounge Music Room
2420 South 1st Street
Austin TX
And the beat goes on! Playing showcases for John Conquest is more fun that we can describe. His hospitality seems endless, his stamina remarkable, and his taste in music is such that we get to hear many wonderful artists, as well as do our Hank & Shaidri thing. This time we will be delighted to have cellist Doug Harman with us. He did a terrific job on our album and he’s fun and impressive live. You might want to catch this!

Sunday, March 16 – 12:30PM
3rd Coast Music Showcase * “NotSxSW”
G&S Lounge Music Room
2420 South 1st Street
Austin TX
This showcase closes out our run of NotSxSW showcases for 2014. We don’t save the best for last, and we don’t slack off near the finish line! Odds are good that again Doug Harman will join us on cello. Come join us! Have we mentioned that G&S Lounge has an excellent selection of beers and ales? Well, consider it mentioned! This is another side benefit of working under John Conquest’s great big umbrella.

Wednesday, March 19 – 7:30PM
Togetherness Tour 2014: Hank & Shaidri with Susan Herndon @ Shakespeare’s Cove
Returning to Shakespeare’s Cove Hank & Shaidri will again open the evening, and then following a short break Susan Herndon will play a set. At some point we will join her to contribute harmonies and twinkly-heart breakingly-sad instrumental amenities, whereafter we close out as a trio with a few songs from Woody Guthrie.
This is a house concert and therefore you must email Shakespeare to request a reservation. So Click This! <"wmspeare at yahoo dot com">
Shakespeare’s Cove is a very friendly house concert venue in Austin. This venue is a delightful site to play music and to listen to music.

Thursday, March 20 – 8PM
Togetherness Tour 2014: Susan Herndon with Hank & Shaidri
AllGood Cafe
(214) 742-5362
Last year’s Togetherness Tour stop in Dallas with Susan Herndon at Mike Snider’s AllGood Cafe introduced us to a wonderful venue, with a delightful and generous host. AllGood Cafe’s menu, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, appetizers and salads, with a variety of beverages, is a thing of beauty. Mike and his staff obviously like good food and are serious about quality and value. A wonderful sense of camaraderie pervades the cafe. We are excited to be returning.

Friday, March 21 – 8:30PM
Togetherness Tour 2014: Susan Herndon with Hank & Shaidri
306 Phoenix House
306 Phoenix Ave
Tulsa,OK 74127
(918) 576-1430
http://306phoenixhouse.com/
306 Phoenix House in Tulsa was a fun and heartwarming conclusion to last year’s Togetherness Tour with our dear friend and musical companion Susan Herndon. The entire event was infused with a spirit of family and community, making us feel intimately welcome. We’re ready to feel that way again! Come join us in Tulsa and see what we’re talking about.

Saturday, March 22 – TBA

Sunday, March 23 – 7:00PM
Togetherness Tour 2014: Susan Herndon with Hank & Shaidri
The Blue Door
2805 N. McKinley
Oklahoma City OK 73106
524-0738
Our inaugural set at Greg Johnson’s legendary Oklahoma City venue last year was an experiential high point for us, and only understatement compels us to say we are extremely excited to be returning to The Blue Door. Many thanks to Greg and to Susan Herndon for getting us back to Oklahoma City, for this much appreciated conclusion to this year’s Togetherness Tour. (And yes, the 2015 TT is already being planned!)

Tuesday, April 1 – 6:00PM
Hank & Shaidri, Guests with Durawa!
Strange Brew Loungeside</strong>
5326 Manchaca Road
Austin TX 78745
828-7636
We feel honored to have been invited by Ernie Durawa to be a guest artist with his band Durawa, with Will Knaak on guitar and Chris Alcaraz on bass, for a slot in their weekly Strange Brew Loungeside series. Look for this one to be a little more country, a little bit more rockin’ than our usual Hank & Shaidri set! What a way to start April. No foolin’! Thank you, Ernie.

And that’s it for now. Join us where and when you can. Playing the music for you is what drives us to drive places! Thanks for your support. It means a lot.

May kindness be our watchword, and cooperation our mantra. May love and laughter prevail.

Hank’s Music News ~ December 2013

Hello, Friends, Fans, and Family!

Hank and Shaidri hope you had an excellent Thanksgiving holiday. May the spirit of Thanksgiving evolve into World Peace. That’s where it’s at.

We will have two appearances in Austin this month, both at Threadgill’s North, one near the beginning of the month, and one near the end, with a fabulous house concert coming up in early January 2014.

We would love to see your smiling face at any of these! We love to play music, and playing it live for you is the best.

Here we go:

Hank & Shaidri with Special Guests Mark Viator and Susan Maxey
Threadgill’s North “Sittin’, Singin’ & Supper”
Wednesday, December 4, 7 to 9:30PM
6416 North Lamar Blvd. * (512) 451-5440

Our Special Guest artist this evening is the Americana roots duo Mark Viator and Susan Maxey, and we’re delighted they’ve accepted our invitation. They are good musical company, and we’ll be in one of the friendliest venues in town. We might even cook up something musically special, given the extra ingredients that will be at hand.

We always enjoy playing at Threadgill’s, where the hospitality and food are first rate, and where we enjoy both a good sound system and a fine operator, too. Admission is free, though we do appreciate tips!

Bluegrass Brunch at Threadgill’s North
Sunday, December 29 – 11 AM to 1PM
6416 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas

Admission is free, (tips are appreciated!), the food, sound, and hospitality excellent. This original Threadgill’s, born of the hand and spirit of Austin’s beloved Kenneth Threadgill, “The Texas Blue Yodeler”, remains our home court in Austin, and as always, we are tickled to return. For one thing, we get brunch! Hank smells bacon…

Sycamore Creek House Concert!
Saturday, January 4, 2014 – 7 to 11 PM
Sycamore Creek Drive, Dripping Springs, Texas

Thomas and Gail Chapmond’s Sycamore Creek house concert venue is among the finest in the land. Admission is open to all but only by reservation/invitation. Once you make your reservation you will receive an invitation with details and directions. Request an invitation via email to: <sycamoreCreekconcerts@gmail.com> This is a very special venue, and we are thrilled to begin our 2014 schedule in this gorgeous setting.

We are tickled to have those three shows lined up, and to see our 2014 schedule begin at Sycamore Creek. We are are seeing other notable 2014 bookings fall into place around our second tour with the delightful Susan Herndon, the Togetherness Tour 2014. The Blue Door in Oklahoma City and Anderson Fair in Houston are now confirmed TT2014 stops, as well as AllGood Cafe in Dallas, and Threadgill’s North in Austin.

We aim to attend the FAR-West (Folk Alliance Region – West) conference in Oakland CA in October 2014, and have been invited to return to Bill Wagman’s house in Davis CA. We will play a concert in Quincy CA, courtesy of PlumasArts and Roxanne Valadao, venue TBA, and we have tentatively set a date with Studio E in Sebastopol CA, a wonderful venue. We haven’t played out West much and we want more of that!

May your December be healthy and happy. Appreciate your loved ones. In the end, that’s all we really have.

We hope to see you soon.
